Kickstarter Tabletop Alert: 'Girls vs Ghouls'

October 2nd
Girls vs Ghouls is a hidden identity game for 4 to 7 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about 40–60 minutes to play. It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a pledge level of $39 for a copy of the game or $59 for the deluxe edition; there’s a $10 expansion pack available as an add-on. Although the box says 14 and up, the gameplay is simple enough that younger kids should be able to pick it up—I played with my 11-year-old—but the trickiest part could be the social deduction, which can even fool adult players. The setting and illustrations are generally family-friendly. (Read More)

Space Freight is a resource management game for to 2 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about 30 to 60 minutes to play. It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a pledge level of $67 for a copy of the game. The game rules aren’t too complex so I think you could go perhaps as young as 10 as long as they can handle some direct conflict in the game. (Read More)

Kickstarter Tabletop Alert: 'Citizens of the Spark'

October 1st
Citizens of the Spark is a tableau-building card game for 1 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about 45–60 minutes to play. It’s currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a pledge level of $40 for a copy of the game, or $55 to include the optional playmat. I think some kids younger than 14 with some gaming experience should be able to pick up the rules—the iconography on the cards can take a little bit to figure out, but isn’t overwhelming, and there isn’t really anything that would make the game inappropriate thematically. (Read More)
